Clarence Crane invented Life Savers and gave them their name because the shape was similar to that of lifebuoys. After buying the rights of the candy for 2900, Edward John Noble packaged them in an aluminum foil wrap instead of cardboard to keep the mints fresh. The first five flavor role of Life Savers came in 1935.
